April Ross

April Ross was one of just a handful of women beach volleyball stars who won medals during more than one Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days, she'll try to net her third medal with fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross wants to achieve more than just her first Olympic medal. Perhaps it is her last chance at winning, as she's 39 old. The athlete is optimistic she can achieve top honors. Ross on NBC Boston, said that If the team is performing well or at all they could win a gold. Also, I'll take some chance. Ross was born August 22, 1982, located in Costa Mesa California. She lived there together with her parents. Along with participating in a variety of sports, Ross was also a student at Newport Harbor High School. In her time as a college athlete she played indoor volleyball and track. She clearly was the top player in indoor volleyball. Through her high school years, she played middle blocker outside hitter and setter at the tennis court, according to her bio at the college. She was awarded the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the Year in 1999, for her performance. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her for volleyball. Ross and Klineman began the partnership in 2017, however, Ross was a beach scene star for years before. It's true that she's won multiple big tournaments as well as one of her partners was a volleyball superstar. Ross teamed up along with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and also was Klineman's trainer. Ross, the teammate of Kessy's, who took home the title of world champion together with Kessy in 2009 was also significant on the an international level. They were awarded a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor clinched gold overtaking them. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor as she left the team. They won the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross played for the Trojans at USC during her college years after she graduated in high school. Her career was a success during her time in college. In 2000, as a freshman she fought her way to Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman of the Year awards and was also an All-American. The Trojans were also able to get to the Final Four with her help. She was devastated by a personal tragedy during her sophomore year. However, she managed to become an All-American again. During her final two seasons with the Trojans team, she led them to victories by winning consecutive national championships. As an individual Ross established her status as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award is given to the top female college volleyball players in the country. Ross studied at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross was never able to see her daughter achieve the heights in beach volleyball. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001, when Ross was in the midst of being a USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. Her mother is still close to her heart. Margie has been an inspiration in her life and on the beaches.
